With 14:38 to play in the first half, the Islanders took their revenge.
Anders Lee went after the Capitals’ Tom Wilson – the same player who knocked out Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky in Game 4 – early on in Game 5.
Lee, not known for being a fighter, ended up wrestling Wilson to the ice after the Cap got a few shots in.
Both players were given five-minute majors, but the penalty seemed to be advantageous to the Islanders, as they took a 1-0 lead on Josh Bailey’s goal just 26 seconds after the fight.
Islanders’ Anders Lee (l.), shown here tangled up with Capitals goalie Braden Holtby, goes right after Tom Wilson early in Game 5.
The Caps got even on Evgeny Kuznetsiov’s score four minutes later.
In between periods on the TV broadcast, Bailey said Lee did “a great job stepping up for us” and that Wilson was a “tough guy and (Lee) held his own.”
The series is tied 2-2 as the pivotal Game 5 is underway.
