Masahiro Tanaka is taking a break to spend time with his wife and newborn son.
TAMPA – Masahiro Tanaka is taking a break from spring training – his wife, TV personality Mai Satoda, gave birth to a baby boy Monday.
“I’ll be going into the season with a new member of the family,” Tanaka said on his Twitter account, according to a translation on the Japan Times website. “I hope to put in the work I need to in time for opening day.”
Tanaka flew back to New York to be with his family, but is expected back by Friday when pitchers and catchers have their first official workout at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Tanaka, who had surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow after last season, has been in Tampa on a throwing program.
