An Indiana man allegedly grabbed his fiancée by the throat during an alcohol-infused argument over whether IndyCar is better than NASCAR on Sunday.

But David Lee Wilson, 57, told police he had only yelled at her and another person for “talking trash about NASCAR,” WRTV-TV reported.

The unidentified woman said Wilson, of Franklin in the Indianapolis area, attacked her for stating her preference for turbocharged-engine, open-wheeled vehicle races like Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 over stock car contests such as the annual Daytona 500, officials in the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office told the TV station.

David Wilson, 57, of Franklin, Indiana, was arrested Sunday night on preliminary charges of domestic battery and strangulation, according to reports.

The pair had been drinking the entire day while listening to the signature race roughly 30 miles away from Franklin on the radio, the woman told deputies, according to WRTV. She and the other person sitting in the house’s living room agreed that IndyCar was better than NASCAR, and Wilson allegedly stormed into the room and choked her, The Indianapolis Star reported.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office arrived to the home in the 2500 block of U.S. 31 at 8 p.m. after an incomplete 911 call, according to the newspaper. The woman had tried to report the incident but Wilson snatched the phone from her, said “everything is fine here,” and ended the call, according to a release from the sheriff’s office cited by the Star.
