With Eric Goeddel now pitching, Chase Headley leads off with double to right. John Ryan Murphy grounds out to third for the first out. Stephen Drew then whiffed for the second out. Gregorio Petit also whiffed to end the inning. 6-4 Yankees
With Mets trailing 6-4, Daniel Murphy walks to start the inning, sending Shreve to the showers and righty Chris Martin to the mound. Eric Campbell hits a slow roller that Yanks are able to turn into a force play on Murphy. Flores then fouls out, but Eric Campbell thinks it’s two outs and gets double off first. Yanks 6-4.
The Yanks broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to some shoddy Mets fielding. Brett Gardner appears to ground out to shortstop Flores, who makes wide throw to Lucas Duda, who holds the bag. Yanks challenge the play and Gardner is ruled safe. Chris Young then hit a bullet to Daniel Murphy, who couldn’t handle it. The ball bounced into left field, giving the Yanks first and third with no outs for A-Rod. Rodriguez hit a two hopper to Flores, who stepped on second for one out and but threw the ball over Lucas Duda’s head to allow A-Rod to go to second. 6-4 Yankees. Mark Teixeira then walked to make it first and second with one out. But Carlos Beltran hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. 6-4 Yankees
Curtis Granderson strikes out swining for first out. Juan Lagares hits slow chopper to Chase Headley, who barehands ball and makes bad throw that gets by Teixeira, allowing Lagares to go to second. That chases Eovaldi out of the game, bringing in lefty Jason Shreve to face Lucas Duda, but Shreve hits Duda on the first pitch, giving Mets first and second. But Michael Cuddyer hits into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. 5-4 Yankees
John Ryan Murphy, who doubled in first at-bat, hit a grounder to Wilmer Flores at short. His throw was short and Lucas Duda couldn’t come up with it, but Stephen Drew hit into a 6-4-3 double play for the first and second outs. Petit then lined out to Cuddyer to end the inning. Yanks 5-4.
Wilmer Flores leads off with soft liner to second. Danny Muno, the designated hitter, struck out swinging for the second out. Rookie catcher Kevin Plawecki grounded out to Eovaldi. Yanks lead 5-4.
Mark Teixeira leads off inning with liner right back to Niese, who makes catch for first out. Carlos Beltran then whiffed for the second out and Chase Headley grounded out to short to end the 1-2-3 innings. Yanks lead 5-4 after three.
Curtis Granderson strikes out swinging to open third and Juan Lagares struck out for the second out. Lucas Duda then singled to right with two outs. Michael Cuddyer then doubled to left to score Duda, with Cuddyer going to third on the throw home. Daniel Murphy followed with his own double to left, scoring Cuddyer, making it 5-4. Eric Campbell ended the inning with a chopper back to the mound. Yankees 5, Mets 4.
With Yanks trailing 2-1, Chase Headley leads off second by grounding out to short. John Ryan Murphy followed with a one-out double down the third base line. Stephen Drew struck out for the second out and Gregorio Petit doubled to left to tie the game. With two outs, Brett Gardner, who then doubled down the first-base line to make it 3-2 Yankees. Chris Young then hit a grounder through a vacant second base to score Gardner and make it 4-2 Yankees. A-Rod then hit another double to left, scoring the run before getting thrown out at third to end the inning with the Yanks up 5-2.
With the Mets leading 2-1 to open the second, Wilmer Flores flew out to right for the first out and Danny Muno followed with a strike out. Catcher Kevin Plawecki whiffed to end the inning.
Alex Rodriguez, who went 0-for-4 against Matt Harvey Saturday, lit up Yankee Stadium with career home run No. 559 with two outs in the inning. It left him just one away from tying Willie Mays with 660. That milestone is supposed to earn Rodriguez a $ 6 million bonus, but the Daily News has reported the Yankees will fight Rodriguez over the bonus.
Brett Gardner grounded out to third to start the game for the Yankees. Former Met Chris Young also grounded out to Campbell at third for second out, bringing up Rodriguez. After the home run, Mark Teixeira also grounded to third, but Campbell boobled it and made a low throw to that Lucas Duda couldn’t handle. Carlos Beltran whiffed to end the inning.
For the second straight game, the Mets jumped on the Yankees early. Curtis Granderon led off the game with a homer to right field on a 3-2 pitch from Nate Eovaldi. It was Granderson’s first homer of the season and second first-inning HR for the Mets in this series. Lucas Duda homered off CC Sabathia in the first inning Saturday.
Juan Lagares, who went 4-for-4 Saturday, kept it going with a single to right. Lucas Duda hit a long ball to center that former Met Chris Young tracked down for first out. Michael Cuddyer then hit a sharp grounder to third that was snagged by Chase Headley, who threw Cuddyer out at first, moving Lagares to second. Daniel Murphy, though, kept the inning going with a scorching grounder to to first that got by Mark Teixeira to score Lagares and make it 2-0. Eric Campbell grounded out to Headley to end the inning with the Mets up, 2-0.
